Commitment: Approximately 2 hours every six weeks attending board meetings in person, plus additional duties as outlined below and some expectation of volunteering to help with the activities Ham and Petersham SOS offer our members

About Us:

Ham and Petersham SOS is seeking dedicated individuals from diverse backgrounds who share a passion for supporting elderly and vulnerable adults in the local community. As a trustee, you’ll play a crucial role in shaping the organization’s mission and ensuring its continued success.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning:

– Approve the organisation’s mission statement and review staff performance in achieving it.

– Annually assess the changing environment and approve the organisation’s one-year plan.

– Review and approve the organisation’s budget.

– Approve major policies.

Organisation:

– Recruit, appoint, monitor, appraise, advise, and support the Manager of the organisation.

– Regularly discuss matters of concern with the Manager or the Board.

– Ensure organisational strength and staffing meet long-term goals.

– Approve salaries, terms, and conditions for all staff.

– Nominate prospective Trustees and fill vacancies as needed.

– Annually approve staff work plans and review their performance.

– Annually evaluate the performance of the Board of Trustees and implement improvements.

– identify opportunities for fundraising and activities to ensure the ongoing health and longevity of the charity

Operations:

– Ensure the financial structure meets current needs and long-range strategy.

– Provide candid and constructive criticism, advice, comments, and praise.

– Approve major actions, such as capital expenditure and significant changes in activities and services.

Audit:

– Stay informed about the organisation’s condition and operations through reports.

– Ensure published reports accurately reflect services and financial conditions.

– Appoint an independent Examiner, subject to member approval.

– Review compliance with relevant laws affecting the organization.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

– Interest in supporting elderly and vulnerable adults and helping the local community.

– Willingness to commit approximately at least 2 hours every six weeks.

– Ability to read and prepare for Board meetings.

– Attend occasional meetings related to Ham and Petersham SOS.

– Stand for re-election annually at the AGM.

Compensation: Trustees receive no remuneration; reasonable out-of-pocket expenses can be reimbursed.
